A homecoming with a world title at stake

Olascuaga has built much of his championship career away from Los Angeles. Five of his previous six appearances were in Japan, according to Matchroom. His defense against Martinez at Dignity Health Sports Park will be his first fight in his home area, on the same show as Diego Pacheco–Darius Fulghum.

The change of setting comes alongside a multi-fight co-promotional agreement with Matchroom and Teiken. For Olascuaga, the immediate job is to keep the WBO belt. For Martinez, it is a first world-title opportunity.

The champion has already answered different kinds of tests

The WBO records Olascuaga’s title win over Riku Kano in July 2024 and five subsequent defenses. His latest was a ninth-round stoppage of Jukiya Iimura in March 2026.

That run has not been only about finishing opponents. A WBO report also records his 12-round unanimous decision over Hiroto Kyoguchi in March 2025. It is relevant experience if the challenger’s stoppage streak gives way to a fight decided round by round.

Seven professional fights do not tell Martinez’s whole story

Matchroom lists Martinez at seven wins from seven professional outings, all inside the distance, and says he won the WBO Latino title in May. Those numbers describe his professional start, not his entire boxing education.

Colombia’s Olympic committee records silver at Rio 2016 in the 49kg division and world-championship bronze in 2017. That background makes this a meeting between an established professional champion and a challenger with substantial elite amateur experience, rather than a simple veteran-versus-novice matchup.

What to watch: finishing power versus winning rounds

The central question is whether Martinez can turn that early professional success into effective work against a reigning champion. If a stoppage is not immediately available, can he keep building rounds instead of waiting for a decisive opening?

For Olascuaga, watch whether he can make the challenger solve sustained problems across rounds. His win over Kyoguchi shows that he has completed championship distance; it does not decide how this fight will unfold. These are viewing questions, not a prediction of either boxer’s tactics or the result.

Date, venue and broadcast

The WBO title defense is the co-main event on Saturday, November 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Pacheco–Fulghum tops the show. Matchroom announces TNT, truTV and DAZN in the United States, with DAZN worldwide.
